Bourses continue firm trade in late afternoon session - 29th March

 Indian equity benchmarks continued their firm trade in late afternoon session on account of buying in front line counters. In stock specific developments, Adani Enterprises, Lemon Tree, Adani Power and Adani Transmission stocks hits 52-week high on BSE. Globally traders took support on falling crude oil rates and optimistic about Ukraine and Russia look to continue peace talks, which could lead to an easing of sanctions on Russian oil by the West. Sector wise, airline industry remained in focused, as airports across India will see 33.81 crore passengers in 2022-23, 69.35 per cent more than the current financial year. A total of 19.96 crore passengers travelled through the airports in the country during 2021-22. On the global front, Asian markets were trading mixed and European markets were trading higher as Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan opened the latest round of peace talks between Ukraine and Russia in Istanbul with a speech.

The BSE Sensex is currently trading at 57790.00, up by 196.51 points or 0.34% after trading in a range of 57639.35 and 57934.15. There were 16 stocks advancing against 14 stocks declining on the index.

The broader indices were trading in green; the BSE Mid cap index gained 0.57%, while Small cap index was up by 0.65%.

The top gaining sectoral indices on the BSE were Realty up by 1.32%, Healthcare up by 1.25%, Basic Materials up by 1.23%, Telecom up by 0.81% and Utilities was up by 0.52%, while PSU down by 0.69%, Energy down by 0.45%, Oil & Gas down by 0.34%, Bankex down by 0.07% and FMCG was down by 0.01% were the top losing indices on BSE.

The top gainers on the Sensex were Ultratech Cement up by 2.79%, Bharti Airtel up by 2.60%, HDFC up by 2.22%, Dr. Reddy's Lab up by 1.39% and Sun Pharma up by 1.25%. On the flip side, ITC down by 0.84%, Indusind Bank down by 0.79%, SBI down by 0.78%, Power Grid down by 0.66% and Axis Bank down by 0.38% were the top losers.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Finance in its latest quarterly report on public debt management has showed that total liabilities (including liabilities under the Public Account) of the Government, was Rs 128,41,996 crore at end-December 2021 as against Rs 125,71,747 crore at end-September 2021. This indicates a quarter-on-quarter increase of 2.15 per cent in Q3 FY22.

The report further noted that public debt accounted for 91.60 per cent of total outstanding liabilities at end-December 2021 as against 91.48 per cent at end-September 2021. Nearly 29.94 per cent of the outstanding dated securities had a residual maturity of less than 5 years.

As per the report, the yields on Government securities hardened in the secondary market due to increase in supply of G-secs during the quarter like in first and second quarter of FY22. However, the yields were supported by decision of MPC to keep the Policy repo rate unchanged at 4 percent, to continue with accommodative stance during the Q3 FY22.

The CNX Nifty is currently trading at 17294.00, up by 72.00 points or 0.42% after trading in a range of 17235.70 and 17322.25. There were 29 stocks advancing against 19 stocks declining on the index, while two stocks remain unchanged.

The top gainers on Nifty were Adani Ports &Special up by 3.88%, Eicher Motors up by 3.36%, JSW Steel up by 3.25%, Divi's Lab up by 3.20% and Ultratech Cement up by 2.83%. On the flip side, ONGC down by 2.55%, Coal India down by 2.41%, Indian Oil down by 0.83%, Indusind Bank down by 0.76% and ITC down by 0.74% were the top losers.

Asian markets were trading mixed, Nikkei 225 surged 308.53 points or 1.1% to 28,252.42, Hang Seng increased 242.66 points or 1.12% to 21,927.63, Taiwan Weighted strengthened 28.65 points or 0.16% to 17,548.66, KOSPI rose 11.51 points or 0.42% to 2,741.07. On the flip side, Straits Times trembled 5.54 points or 0.16% to 3,426.45, Shanghai Composite declined 10.56 points or 0.33% to 3,203.94 and Jakarta Composite was down by 37.91 points or 0.54% to 7,011.69.

European markets were trading higher, UK’s FTSE 100 increased 61.61 points or 0.82% to 7,534.75, France’s CAC increased 102.77 points or 1.56% to 6,691.88 and Germany’s DAX was up by 168.95 points or 1.17% to 14,586.32.
